Day 24 - Transformed by Truth

Nancy Redmond
Make that Change

2 Corinthians 5:17 states, "If anyone be in Christ they are a new creation.  Old things are passed away and all things become new."  The only way to achieve this newness is through the word of God.  Romans 12:2 informed us this is done through the renewing of our minds.  When Jesus walked with His disciples He taught many lessons using examples that the people could relate to. He told them when He goes away and the Spirit of truth comes He would lead and guide them into all truths. (John 16:13)
Our author outlines certain steps that should be taken in order to allow the truth to transforms the believer.

1. We must accept its authority as the word of God.  In doing so we allow our lives to be ruled and governed by every principle that is presented.
2. We must become examples of the truths it represents.  The only way people get to know Christ is through His disciples and preaching of the word.
3. As disciples (learners or students of Christ) we must study according to 2 Timothy 2:15.  Studying can take many different forms.  Through studying we learn who Christ is and what the work of the cross did for humankind.  We have benefits as joint heirs to the throne with Christ that we will only find by studying the word.
4. We must abide in His word and His word must abide in us.  This means eat, sleep, breathe and live the word. Jesus said in John 8: 31-32 That if we remain in Him and His word remain in us we will know the truth and the truth will make us free.  This means that you shall know Jesus, He is the way the Truth and the Light.  No man comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).
You cannot have an encounter or relationship with Christ and remain the same.  James 1:23 reminds us that when we don’t adhere to the word it’s like looking in a mirror, walking away and forgetting what you look like.  We must see ourselves in the word and allow it to change us.

Verse to Remember: "If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31-32 (KJV)
