Day 40 - Living with Purpose

Mona Williams
Live in Purpose on Purpose

“Living on purpose is the only way to really live. Everything else is just existing.” Rick Warren

In this last day of Purpose Driven Life, Pastor Warren states the three basic issues we struggle with which are:  identity: “Who am I?”; importance: “Do I matter?”; and impact: “What is my place in life?” By know God’s five purposes for our lives we will be able to answer these questions.

Once God reveals to us what it is we are to do, we are blessed when begin that particular work. Fulfilling his purpose will require some letting go things that would hinder or interfere with that assignment. Fulfilling purpose will require us being intentional! To prevent distractions and to stay the course Pastor Warren suggest we develop a purpose statement for our life and review it on a regular basis.

YOUR LIFE PURPOSE STATEMENT:

1.    A statement that summarizes God’s purposes for your life.  Affirm in your own words your commitment to God’s five purposes concerning you. Not a list of goals, but purposes. God’s purpose is his plan for your life which is an eternal plan. Psalm 33:11
2.    A statement that points the direction of your life.  Get some paper, think, and write what God gives you concerning your purposes. Write concerning every area of your life including your time and money. Proverbs 17:24
3.    A statement that defines “success” for you.  What do you believe is essential and valuable concerning your purposes. Philippians 1:10
4.    A statement that clarifies your roles.  Your purpose will remain the same even as life’s roles change as we go through different phases and stages in life.
5.    A statement that expresses your shape.  God has made us to serve him in our own uniqueness. This will be reflected in our S.H.A.P.E.

Do not rush in completing your purpose statement, it’s not about doing it perfectly, but purposely! As the information pours in from God begin to write. In addition Pastor Warren gives us five questions we should take into consideration as we do our statement:

1.    What will be the center of my life? Worship (Ephesians 3:17)
2.    What will be the character of my life? Discipleship (Galatians 5:22-23)
3.    What will be the contribution of my life? Service (2 Corinthians 9:12)
4.    What will be the communication of my life? Mission (Philippians 1:27)
5.    What will be the community of my life? Fellowship (Ephesians 5:25)

God loves us and he has a plan for all of our lives. Get to know purpose by getting to know God!

Verse to Remember: “For David…served the purpose of God in his own generation.” Acts 13:36 (NASB)
